Hello there, I am Benjamin Rhodes, but around here, everyone calls me Rhodey.

I am, or have been at one point, a driver, team owner, photographer, video editor, media wrangler, commentator, commentator wrangler, managing director, social media whizz, and supporter, all within the field of motorsport and motorsport media. You could say I've got a passion for it.

I started out the photography side of things by assisting in the set-up and development of a local media company, who I was managing director for for about a year. I did a little bit of photography as well for the company, and most of my 2017 albums come from events that were covered by the company.

In early 2018, I split from the company, over differences in direction, and set up Rhodey's Photos on Facebook and Flickr, with my Instagram account coming later down the line. I picked up my camera and a calendar, and got to work, covering the first four rounds of the Vic State Series, the four Victorian Supercars rounds, as well as other events like the Aussie Driver Search qualifying round at Phillip Island and Historic Sandown, with a focus on capturing all my friends and the drivers I support in action, and making the photos easy to find, available quickly, and available freely.

Towards the end of 2018, a new role beckoned for me as a commentator and commentator wrangler with the Vic State Series, and so my Round 4 album was down on size, with Round 5 skipped entirely from a photography standpoint. The scheduling of some events also didn't help, with the last Victorian Excels round on the same weekend and 4 hours away from the last Vic State Series round, which I was committed to covering with commentary.

Unfortunately, 2019 saw the end of my commentary involvements, but it brought me back to full time photography. I covered all five Vic State Series rounds, along with two historic racing events at Sandown and Phillip Island. I paid the Aus GP a visit again, and also got the camera out for the Phillip Island Supercars round. But I started all that off at the Legends Cars test day at Winton, which included a ride in their two-seater. It also saw the albums transferred here to Zenfolio.

2020 started well, with 3 events before the middle of March, but then the Covid-19 pandemic had it's way with the motorsport scene. But all was not lost, with the rebranded Akurra Motorsport inviting me to be a part of their journey from 2020 onwards. A rained out test day between lockdowns in July wasn't the most auspicious start to the partnership, but 2021 promised a return to the usual schedule and plenty of Akurra Formula Vees to photograph. But, delays in being able to get trackside again scuppered the plans with the team, and as of today I'm again dictating who and what I photograph.

The lockdowns have presented a new opportunity in sim racing, and it's where I've been plying my photographic, commentary, and design skills ever since. There is still some fire to photograph trackside too, but current logistics make it tricky. But not impossible. So, where possible, I aim to be capturing my motorsport mates in action, either virtually or trackside, for the foreseeable future.

I hope you like my work, and I'm always open to feedback to improve what I offer. Enjoy your browsing, and I'll see you at the track!
